About SARR

The Southern Alberta Rottweiler Rescue (SARR) is a federally registered charity, based out of Calgary, Alberta.  Over the past eleven years, our volunteer foster homes have rescued, retrained and re-homed hundreds of Rottweilers across Canada.

We are not a kennel, all of our foster dogs live in our homes with our dogs, cats and children so that we can tell potential adopters their personalities.   All of our dogs are temperament assessed prior to entering the organization and sterilized, microchipped,  vaccinated and health checked before being adopted.

No one breed of dog is "bad" or "dangerous", they are all a product of their environment.  We welcome public education and advocacy opportunities.

Blazer

TRIBUTE TO BLAZER

Blazer was a handsome 7 year old Rottweiler who crossed the Rainbow Bridge while in the loving care of Southern Alberta Rottweiler Rescue (SARR). Blazer never found his forever home before his big heart finally broke, but just because he did not have a family to call his own doesn’t mean he is not deeply missed.

Blazer came to SARR after his owner left him at a local shelter when they were moving.  He loved the resident Pug "Molly" at his foster home, delighted in car rides, walks and playing with his toys – stuffies were definitely his favourites.  Blazer suffered a fatal heart attack while on his evening walk only two days after coming to rescue.  He passed away in the arms of his foster family that deeply cherished him. His foster mom Michelle felt the white markings under his eyes were symbolic of Blazer's tears from being abandoned by his owner and spending so long at the shelter.

Alison of SARR writes: “Rescue creates sacred space between foster homes and the trust these majestic dogs place in us to find them a loving forever home.  We're glad to have had a short time of knowing Blazer, better than never to have known him at all....but surely wish things had turned out differently!  It will be hard not to be regularly reminded of how much joy our gentle giant got from trotting around the house with a stuffy toy in his mouth or the excitement he had for car rides and the adventures that may lay ahead.”

Perhaps Blazer’s purpose in life was to remind us all that sharing our lives with a dog is a privilege and a lifelong commitment. They become members of our families that deserve respect, comfort and dignity in their old age.  They are not disposable property that we can discard when they become inconvenient or are no longer wanted.
