We will always remember the many happy times we had with our Jack. He was our Yellow Lab/White Shepard/Golden Retriever mix who was our faithful companion for 10 years and a friend to many. Jack was a strong and energetic boy who never turned down a walk. He was a great wrestling mate, a fantastic swimmer, an excellent ball catcher and a master destroyer of stuffed toys. He loved having his neck scratched, relaxing on our rear deck watching everyone (both human and canine) go by on the green space, and sleeping/sitting just close enough to touch you.
In late March, Jack collapsed on our early morning daily walk. We took him to the vet who discovered a very large mass on his spleen. Jack had a splenectomy in April and made a wonderful recovery. The biopsy on the spleen even came back clean, and so we thought we were out of the woods. Unfortunately, 3 weeks later, in the morning, Jack was very weak again, and his gums were pale. We rushed him to the vet, who did an ultrasound and discovered some spots on his liver. This time the diagnosis didn't come back clean and we learned that Jack had hemangiosarcoma . The prognosis wasn't good and we were given days or weeks before another major bleed would happen. He was stabilized and we brought him home.
Jack had two more months of mostly good days, and we enjoyed every one of them with him, but on July 16th the aggressive cancer took our beautiful boy from us.
Jack is at peace now, but his spirit will always be with us.
