Silas Scott

Silas was born Jan 29th, 2005. He was breed by a back yard breeder that didn’t know what they were doing. They lived out on an acreage. They didn’t give the pups their shots.

I adopted him when he was a very small pup. He had demodex. Demodex in the dog is a common infestation of the dog’s skin with tiny, cigar-shaped, eight-legged mites. When a demodex infestation gets really bad the dog can end up with lifelong problems with their immune system. At 4 months Silas severely injured his back right hip. He was under medical care for it until he was two years old. Silas went into anaphylaxis twice in his life time. Once by a bee sting and the second time it was undetermined. He has been on many different diets and many different medications.

Silas had a severe allergic reaction Thursday March 6, 2008. He was covered with hot spots, his ears were in pain and he became aggressive and was rushed to the vet. He looked dehydrated and was distant. It was decided to end his battle with his immune system problems. Silas is no longer with us. It was a sad day for our family.

Silas was a dog that changed my life.

It was through him my passion for animals was truly awakened.

It was through his illnesses I learned so much about animal health.

Without him I wouldn’t have gotten in to rescue. I would have never found Archie.

Without him I would have never had started working at Pet Planet.

Without him I would have never bought my own store and started this grand adventure.
