Zeus

My story starts at the birth of Zeus. We still have his mother Sable, her first litter on April 24, 1999. She had 7 beautiful white shepherds, which look like little polarbears when born. As they grew up I noticed one little boy who seemed different then the others, he was bumping into things and stayed by himself away from the others. Upon his first vet check, they told me he had cataracts. I thought how can this be he is a puppy. I then found out that if either parent carries the cataract gene they can inheret it. He was not blind but vision impaired. We were not looking to have another dog, but I could not seem to part with this precious animal. He grew up to be my best friend! By my side 24/7 I called him the gentle giant, everyone loved him and he loved everyone even our other 5 dogs and 5 cats. They all took turns sleeping with him and of course with me. My husband and I actually bought a kingsize bed just so he could git between us. On August 15, 2007 he was operated on and had a tumor removed from his spleen (which weighed 7 lbs the size of a bowling ball) he made it through the 2 hour surgery, which I prayed and I stayed the whole time. And when he came home I thought my prayers were answered. He was weak but always had a wagging tail. September 15th, 1 month later his vet check was good the Dr. said he was healthy and gaining weight. Seemed like we had beaten the cancer, then on October 16th he would not eat and seemed very depressed. I rushed him to the hospital, when the Dr. came out of the exam room, they said the cancer had spread and this time there was nothing they could do. He wasn't in any pain, so I brought him home and on October 28th he passed away in my arms...Never to be forgotten...My friend wrote this poem for me and I read it everyday. I would like to share it...

Dolores:

Thank-you for being my companion and friend

Thank-you for being there to the very end

Thank-you for making my life as nice as it could be

My last weeks always being there with me

Thank-you for doing all that could be done

To make my life a very happy one

I'm greateful my time on earth was spent with you

And it was in your arms I lay as heaven's gate I went through.

Love, Zeus
