Yes, we are incorporated under the Alberta Societies Act as a Non-Profit organization. Our non-profit organization number is # 5010685955
Is Kali's Wish a Registered Charity?
Not yet. While we have taken the first step towards becoming a registered charity by incorporating as a non-profit, we are still in the process of applying for Charitable Status. Obtaining Charitable Status can sometimes be a lengthy process, although we are committed to working towards it.
What's the difference?
A Registered Charity is permitted to issue tax reciepts for donations, a registered Non-Profit Organization may not.
Who Runs Kali's Wish?
Kali's Wish Cancer Foundation is entirely run by volunteers. If you would like to volunteer for any of our events or in any other way, please contact us. Being run by volunteers means our administration costs are virtually non-existant, and we can utilize all of our funds in cancer research and other related projects.
My pet has cancer and I can't afford treatment, will Kali's Wish pay
Unfortunately no. We are committed to funding cancer research within the Foundation's areas of focus, and we cannot sponsor treatments for individual animals. If you cannot afford treatment, please contact the Animal Cancer Therapy Subsidization Society of Alberta , as they may be able to assist you.
I would like to share my pet's story on your website, how do I do
If your pet is fighting cancer please join the Circle for support and to share your story with others. We welcome stories from pets who are in remission or who have beaten cancer! To join the Circle, simply email us your story and a picture of your pet.
To have your pet added to our online memorial page, The Rainbow Bridge, email us his or her picture and whatever words you would like, such as a poem or a story. There is no charge to have your pet's permanent online memorial created, as it our hope that this page will bring grieving guardians some comfort after the loss of their pet.
Why are there so many Golden Retrievers on your website?
While cancer affects all breeds of pets, some breeds are much more likely to contract it than others. Sadly, Goldens are the number one breed most affected by cancer, with over 80% developing cancer, and up to 67% of them dying from it, according to recent research. This gives a lot of credibility to the belief that there is a genetic component to cancer. Other breeds that suffer from high cancer rates are German Shepherds, Mastiffs and Bernese Mountain Dogs.
Is Kali's Wish a Foundation specifically for dogs?
No, we welcome all animals and their guardians. However, cancer is far more prevalent in our canine companions than in other animals which is why there are more dogs involved with Kali's Wish than other species. Through the Foundation we have also worked with mice, ferrets, horses and cats, each of which was suffering from cancer.
Can I specify how my donation is used?
Most donations are used collectively for our cancer research projects. The funds raised by the Wish-Upon-A-Star biscuits are specifically donated to Bailey's Library, and you are welcome to request that your donation also be used for the library. Although we cannot accomodate all requests, we would be happy to speak to you about a specific use for your donation.
